Dr. Diane A. Matthews, CPA, CFE, CFF, is the Associate Dean for the School of Management at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA. She is also Chair of Carlow's Accounting and Forensic Accounting programs. Carlow University, a Catholic, women-centered, liberal arts institution, is one of the few schools in the nation to offer an undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science) in forensic accounting. Diane worked closely with forensic accounting firms, the Higher Education Division of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and Carlow's School of Management Advisory Board in designing and implementing the forensic accounting program.

Diane has 21 years of teaching experience, specializing in Intermediate and Advanced Accounting. Diane earned her Ph.D. in 2003 from the University of Pittsburgh in Social and Comparative Analysis with a concentration in International Development of Education. While attending Pitt, Diane was honored as an "Outstanding Doctoral Student" and she also received the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Scholarship Award.

Diane is a 2009 graduate of the FBI Citizens' Academy, an elite school where invitees are trainined in FBI "forensic" processes and procedures in handling various types of criminal activity. She not only learned about white collar crime, but she also participated in an enactment of a terrorist attack.

During Diane's 2008 sabbatical, she worked for the District Attorney's Office in their Fraud Investigation Unit working on cases including securitites fraud, estate fraud, home financing fraud, construction fraud, an illegal massage parlor, and bankruptcy.

At Carlow University, she was voted by the student body as the 2006 Outstanding Academic Advisor, and has been included in Swarthmore's Who's Who as nominated by Carlow honors students. Diane was the receipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award at Community College of Allegheny College before joining Carlow.

Diane first started her career with Touch Ross & Co., and then Arthur Young & Co., both "Big Eight" CPA firms, where she specialized in the banking industry. Upon leaving public accounting, Diane was named Vice President of Equibank, NA, the third largest bank in Pittsburgh, where was oversaw various accounting, product development, operations, and computer systems areas. After 10 years, Diane joined Fisher Scientific, a manufacturing firm specializing in healthcare and laboratory products. Diane directed Fisher's international Customer Systems and Telecommunications Division, with a biudget of $5.7 million. Diane "retired" from Fischer Scientific and started teaching part-time, and the rest is history. After 21 years in higher education, Diane says that teaching is not a job, or an occupation...it is something that she sees as her full-time hobby-because she loves what she does.

Diane is a member of the American Accounting Association, the PICPA, the AICPA, the ACFE, and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the ACFE, where she holds the position of Vice President. She is extremely active in her community in various athletic associations, and the Boy Scouts. She devotes many hours to comunity service projects.

Diane has authored over 25 articles, research papers, and book chapters, and has given national presentations on forensic accounting, distance education, cooperative learning, and internatonal aid to education. She provides Continuing Professional Education Seminars for the PICPA and has been a guest speaker and lecturer at national conventions.

Diane has been married to Bill, CPA, FHFMA, for 35 years. Their twin sons, Brad and Nick, are currently attending college, studying Accounting/Finance, and Architecture, respectively. Diane and her family love to golf together. The entire family enjoys the many events that Pittsburgh has to offer. GO Pitt, Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates!
